Neighborhood Spotlight: Crestwood, Birmingham, Alabama
Welcome to my “Neighborhood Spotlight” series, where I highlight some of my favorite communities in Birmingham, Alabama! This month, we’re diving into the community of Crestwood, an area full of shops, dining, and entertainment.
The Crestwood neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama, is divided into two areas by Crestwood Boulevard - Crestwood North and Crestwood South. The community is in southeast Birmingham, just South of Woodlawn, East of Avondale, and North of Irondale.
But without further ado, let’s dive into what makes Crestwood a neighborhood you should know!
Eat, Drink, and Be Merry - There’s plenty to do in Crestwood!
Nicknamed the “Hippest Haven in Town,” Crestwood is home to some of the best food, shopping, craft beer, and entertainment Birmingham offers. There's no shortage of things to do with businesses like Thank You Books, True Story Brewing, the Filling Station, Urban Suburban Antiques, Crestwood Tavern, and more.
Location is everything.
Located right outside the Birmingham city center, Crestwood is in a prime location, offering a less hectic lifestyle in a walkable and tight-knit community. Yet it still provides easy access to all the fun downtown Birmingham has, not to mention all the events, dining, shopping, and entertainment that neighboring Woodlawn and Avondale provide!
Let’s talk about the real estate.
Crestwood North mainly consists of older craftsman-style homes mixed with 50’s bungalows and ranch homes, while Crestwood South overall is a newer neighborhood with ‘50s and ’60s ranch-style basement homes.
The Crestwood North has seen incredible growth and renewal over the last 10 -15 years, which is reflected in the increased property prices. A home that, post-financial crisis, would sell for $100,000-$150,000 will be three times that price today.

As you can see, Crestwood residents have great things to say about the community! From its easy access to shops and entertainment to its homes and overall community feel. And if you ask me, Crestwood is a great place to live!
